Andrea Hajek

Andrea Hajek (1979) studied French, Comparative Studies and Italian at the University of Utrecht (Netherlands). In 2003 she concluded her first two degrees with a double thesis on the reception of Roland Barthes in the French and Anglo-American academic context. In January 2007, after a three-year stay in Italy, she obtained her third degree in Italian Studies, with a thesis on the relation between popular music and generational identity in modern Italian narrative. She is currently in the second year of a PhD in the Italian Department of the University of Warwick, Coventry (UK).

Her research project deals with the construction of the collective memory of the 1970s in Italy, in particular regarding the 1977 student movement in Bologna. Related research interests include youth and underground culture, collective memory, and protest movements. In the past, she has published articles on the Italian pulp genre and on Italian narrative in the 1960s and 1970s.
